Books, Experience, Growth

  • by

Dear fellow blog reader,

Hello! It has been quite some time since we last chatted. Today, let us talk about something that I noticed — my change in book taste, and how this might actually help you as well. First off, welcome to the blog, this is a little space that I have kept for years writing down my thoughts and learnings. Although because of work I was not writing as much here, I still wanted to keep this space so that people can read it in the future.

I am sitting in front of my window, it’s a beautiful day, sipping through my cup of tea, and riting this for you on my laptop.

Now, back to today’s topic. Let’s talk about what I like to talk most — growth.

There are a few books I want to talk about that inspired this piece — The Story of Lululemon by Chip Wilson, Onward by Howard Schultz, 小米創業思考 by Lei Jun, Innovation by James Dyson, Grinding it out by Ray Kroc. All great books. All brilliant founders.

I think the more one gets on with life, the more that one understands life. It is such a pity as life progress, time moves faster and faster, and our time on this earth would be on a countdown. For a lot of people, their understanding of life comes way too late in life. To combat this, I believe reading is not just recommended, but in fact a required act.

Through books, one can stand on the shoulders of the greats before them and develop a life with more tools and knowledge than the average Joe. This could provide more growth and getting to where you wanted to be faster.

In Chip Wilson’s book, he emphasised quite a number of times the importance of personal development, and I could not agree more with him.

We can all choose to be average, there is nothing wrong with it, but from a broader perspective, putting the fact that a more mature, well developed you can bring better living and memories to your family and people around you, you are also doing more service to the world as a whole. You will consume X amount of food, clothing, energy, water from this planet in your Y years of life anyways, why don’t we make good use of it and contribute to the world and make it a better place? So that the next generation can be benefited from it and the whole human race can be pushed forward?

This is the perspective that one should think in.

I think that’s pretty much for today. I believe that readers of my blog are really good people and together, let’s make this world a better place.

Ryan
