Dear Readers,
After writing the piece last week I read yet another book and I want to come up and correct myself. The thing that you need for your work should not just be passion, but obsession. I think obsession would be a better word to describe this. If you don’t truly love and dedicate every moment of your life to this thing, it is very likely that it cannot last long. Now, notice the logic, it could well be that you dedicate every moment of your life to this thing and you are totally obsessed with it but still fails. This could totally happen. But without the obsession, it is impossible to succeed. I think the other key is that the obsession must not be just something that you have momentarily. I have seen founders, even successful ones, that quite easily got bored of what they do, and look for the next excitement one after another. They do not have true, consistent obsession in what they do, is that a problem? It depends on how you see it. It is very hard to judge someone from the outside — if jumping from one startup idea to another makes him happy and he finds his life’s purpose in that, who am I to judge…
Normally I would end it like this but I want to bring up another topic right here. The importance of your signifiant other. Many people overlooked the importance of your significant other. He/she might make or break your life. He/she is the one that is always with you, in your life, maybe even living with you. Make wise choices. It is more important than what books you read and what strategy you take, truly.
Hope the above helps. Have a great day!
Best,
Ryan
