First Principle Thinking

  • by

Let’s go deeper on this one.

I think this is important to many people, whatever they do. And I wanted to share this with more people because I know, even though not many people read my little blog, this would be helpful. You know I always image the following scene: One night, someone, alone in a dark room, come across my blog by the magic of internet, and then  read one piece of the blogs, then another, then another, getting some “ah-ha!” and inspirations from it.

I think while its cool to just live your life and enjoy what’s you’ve got, its even cooler if one can share what he’s learnt along the way and help others that are not there yet to achieve more.

Plus, it’s always about the constant improvement. There is always room to improve.

We all have limited time on this planet. Let’s help each other out, and together we can build a better world for this generation and the next generations to come.

I truly, truly believe in this. I think you can tell.

Now let’s get back to the topic.

First Principle Thinking

I think the term has been made popular by Elon Musk but in fact if you look closer, it has been the trait in a lot of well known businesses and people around the world. You don’t solve a problem by looking at the current solutions available on it. You need to get back to the problem itself. Let me give you a classic example. People don’t ask Karl Benz for a “car”, they asked for a faster horse.

But Karl Benz went back to the original problem in this most fundamental roots – to bring people from point A to point B, and created the first ever auto-mobile in the world. This is what leads to the invention of the car.

A lot of times, we all got caught up in the day-to-day and typical level thinking, solving problems at the level that we find them. But I think it’s Albert Einstein who says that “You can’t solve a problem at the level that they are created.” I think in all situations, there is always that “out-of-the-box” solution, the issue is we just have to step back and look at the problem from that angle. And it’s not that difficult, once you started to take a step back, the solution would show up and say hi to you. And after a while, just like training of muscles, it will become ingrained into you and you can solve issues with this little unique ability of yours.

I hope the above helps. I think sometimes we all get stuck and a little bit of creativity would help us in solving problems and also it helps us to feel better about ourselves.

I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a little laugh if you think of some really funny solutions!

Have a great day out there!

Best,

Ryan
