I was chatting with my friend last week and we somehow got into the topic of business. He mentioned something that really struck me, and the more I thought about it, the more true it seemed to me. Here it goes,
If something is started for the pure purpose of making money, it probably would not succeed. Only projects that are started out of passion succeed.
To look at it from a different angle, it means that if you are starting something just because you wanted to make some money, you are guaranteed to fail.
If it is a job, you probably won’t excel in it, if you are doing for the money. If it is your own business, it probably would struggle, if you are doing for the money.
I have seen many companies failed because of this. The founder was doing it just/mainly for the money, or maybe as the company grows, the company slowly sees profits more important than the satisfaction and experience of the users.
Don’t be like them.
Always remember why you started.
